Kenworth recently announced that T880S set-forward front axle models now have options for 52-inch and 76-inch mid-roof sleeper cabs. Kenworth says the new configurations “are focused on heavy-haul and severe highway applications where ruggedness is especially required” and are well-suited for operating in the United States and Canada. “Our high-quality sleeper options for the T880S provides customers with an additional opportunity for enhanced driver comfort in their efforts for cost-effective operations and increased driver retention and recruitment,” says Kenworth Marketing Director Kurt Swihart.

    52-Inch vs. 76-Inch

Both mid-roof sleeper options are similar in interior height, which Kenworth says allows “a driver or passenger up to 6-foot-4 to easily stand up between the seats.” They both also have options for 180-degree swivel passenger seats to create more living space, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, premium sound systems, and factory-installed inverters.

The 52-inch version is designed for shorter stays and features a lower bunk you can lift up and storage units on the back wall. There is also an option for a bunk heater. The 76-inch configuration is available with the same storage system on the back wall or you can add a folding upper bunk in its place. Kenworth also offers an Idle Management System for this T880S model that features a “factory-installed, battery-based auxiliary power unit (APU).

    More On The T880S

The Kenworth T880S set-forward front axle truck comes standard with a PACCAR MX-13 engine, which is available with ratings of up to 510 horsepower (380.3 kilowatts) and 1,850 pounds-foot (2,508.3 newton meters) of torque. You can also opt for a 10.8-liter PACCAR MX-11 engine that produces up to 430 horsepower (320.7 kilowatts) and 1,650 pounds-foot (2,237 newton metres) of torque. Kenworth says the MX-11 is “400 pounds (181.4 kilograms) lighter than larger-displacement engines,” which makes it a fit for “weight-sensitive applications.” The T880S has several axle configurations available with front axle weight ratings of between 14,600 and 22,800 pounds (6,622.4 and 10,342 kilograms).
