Utility Trailer Announces Results Of Sustainability Report

Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co., a leading manufacturer of refrigerated trailers, dry freight vans, flatbeds, and Tautliner curtain-sided trailers, announced last week the results of a third-party sustainability performance report. The review was conducted by Ramboll, a consulting company headquartered in Denmark. According to Utility, Ramboll analyzed more than two decades’ worth of data from all five of Utility’s manufacturing plants across the U.S. to measure increases in environmental, health, and safety performance to provide insight into Utility’s effort to reduce their overall air emissions, waste, and energy consumption.

Dramatic Emission Decreases

Utility reports that it has eliminated ozone-depleting emissions from its inject-foam insulation process and reduced its overall waste and emissions with a 27% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, a 62% decrease in volatile organic compounds emissions, and a 97% drop in hazardous air pollutants emissions. “We are honored to say that all Utility manufacturing plants are classified as Minor Sources of Emissions under the USEPA’s Clean Air Act regulations,” says Brett Olsen, marketing manager for Utility. “We take pride in managing our production and manufacturing with integrity as it relates to forward-thinking environmental practices.”

Better For The Environment, Better For The Company

Utility says that to further its commitment to reduce emissions, it sources 100% of its wood from forests certified by the Sustainable Forest Initiative. The trailer company also increased cardboard recycling by 23% and says that the reductions to water, energy, and materials usage also cut its costs and improved efficiency to produce significant financial gains. “These results prove that our proactive initiatives are achieving a safer, smarter, and more sustainable workplace,” Olsen adds. “By staying ahead of the curve, we are pursuing and implementing sustainable practices that better our employees, our environment, and best utilize our natural resources.”
