Mack Trucks Builds In Support For Geotab Drive Automatic ELD Logging
Mack Trucks has announced built-in support for Geotab cloud-based ELD (Electronic Logging Data) recording in all of its new vehicles. Called Geotab Drive for Mack Trucks, the factory-installed Geotab GO telematics device automatically transmits engine and position data to the cloud, where duty status logs are then generated for compliance purposes. Geotab can record HOS (Hours of Service), Records of Duty Status, and Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
“Mack Trucks is pleased to work with Geotab to use existing cloud-based technology for reporting ELD information and helping fleets ensure they are maintaining driver Hours of Service compliance,” says Mack Trucks’ Vice President of Connected Vehicle and Contract Services, David Pardue. “Cloud-based data reporting simplifies the process for customers, and because it does not require them to purchase a new ELD device or for them to be reliant on hardware devices or a wireless connection, it makes data collection more reliable.”
Automatic Or Manual
The built-in Geotab system’s strength is its reliability and hands-free nature. Mack says that it’s more foolproof than using an aftermarket ELD device, as it isn’t affected by wireless interference and there is no pairing process such as with Bluetooth or Ethernet gadgets.
Additionally, the driver can opt to enter duty status logs manually by using the Geotab Drive app on a mobile device. Geotab will combine the driver’s manually entered log with the rest of the telematics data for a complete record of duty status.
Lower Cost of Ownership
Mack announced the new Geotab Drive for Mack Trucks at the recent ATA MC&E (American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition) in San Diego.
“Mack is always seeking ways to improve the total cost of ownership for our customers,” says Pardue. “Working with cloud-based data for mandatory reporting purposes is a more efficient and more effective way to compile data and ensure compliance.”
