Volvo Trucks Introduces New VNR 660 Model With Shorter BBC Length & Standard High-Roof Sleeper Cab
Volvo Trucks recently unveiled its new VNR 660 truck at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 28 to 31. Volvo designed the new VNR model specifically for regional-haul applications, but with an emphasis on supporting larger payloads without adding unnecessary weight or length. With a BBC (bumper to back-of-cab) length of 164 inches (4,166 millimeters), the shorter VNR 660 is compatible with more potential trailer combinations that can increase capacity, and the shorter hood improves visibility and maneuverability.
“The new VNR 660 truck model addresses the needs of regional-haul customers looking for ways to increase payloads by decreasing the weight of the vehicle and enabling the use of longer trailer sizes without sacrificing efficiency,” says Chris Stadler, product marketing manager at Volvo Trucks North America. “This new model also offers the comfort and extra space of a high-roof sleeper, increasing driver comfort.”
Unique Specifications
Although designed for regional operation, Volvo included a 61-inch high-roof sleeper cab in the VNR 660 “that will comfortably accommodate an extra person for an overnight stop,” which makes it well-suited for driving teams. “At Volvo Trucks, it’s critical for us to understand our customers’ businesses and deliver solutions that increase their operational efficiency,” Stadler says. “In addition to a truck that meets application-specific needs, our regional-haul customers want improved living environments inside the cab to attract and maintain professional drivers. The new VNR 660 certainly accomplishes those objectives.”
Comfort & Safety
Rounding out the interior is space for a microwave, refrigerator, and television; room above the driver and passenger seats for additional storage; and the option to add Volvo’s Premier Trim package that features woodgrain accents. Other standard features include a Volvo D11 engine, I-Shift transmission, and Volvo Active Driver Assist 2.0, which consists of several safety and assistance technologies such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and more.
