Second-Generation Bendix Wingman Fusion System Now Available On Mack Granite Trucks
At World of Concrete 2020, which took place in Las Vegas from February 4 to 7, Mack announced that the Bendix Wingman Fusion system is now an available option with new orders for Mack Granite trucks. “Mack Trucks remains at the industry forefront when it comes to offering technology that enhances the total cost of ownership for our customers,” says Tim Wrinkle, construction product manager for Mack Trucks. “Offering Bendix Wingman Fusion on our Granite model is just another example of Mack raising the bar by offering safety technology to help our customers mitigate the potential for accidents.”
Bendix Wingman Fusion
The second generation of Bendix Wingman Fusion has several core system upgrades, including updates to its AEB (automatic emergency braking) and lane departure warning capabilities. The system uses cameras and radar to survey the area around the truck and can notify the driver when it detects potential risks.
For example, the driver assistance system can provide a warning up to 3.5 seconds before a potential impact and reduce vehicle speed by as much as 50 miles per hour (80.5 kilometers per hour) to prevent collisions. It can also provide an alert or apply the brakes automatically while changing lanes if the system detects a slow or stopped vehicle in the adjacent lane. Other standard and optional features include cameras that detect if the truck is veering out of the lane or off the road unintentionally, a camera that can record video of events for future reference, and a camera facing the driver “to monitor driver behavior,” Mack explains.
