Volvo Trucks recently introduced the VHD Vocational Series, the latest iteration of its popular vocational truck, which features several interior, exterior, and technological upgrades. Inside the cab, Volvo moved the ignition to the left side of the dash and arranged the steering wheel buttons to be more “touch-friendly.” The exterior features a new grille, fully sealed LED headlights, and an option to add a de-icing system that melts way snow and ice, which is ideal for plow trucks in the winter. Volvo also added a heavy-duty tow pin to the bumper that supports up to 80,000 pounds (36,287 kilograms). The VHD also features a T-Ride suspension, which Volvo says is available with a “new ride stiffness option for mixers and trucks with wing plows.”

    Safety Features & Technologies

Volvo emphasizes safety with all of its vehicles, and the VHD is no different. It is available with Volvo Dynamic Steering and Volvo Active Driver Assist, both of which include several safety and driver assistance features, including cameras and radar, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, highway departure warnings, and much more. Other technologies include Remote Diagnostics and Remote Programming, as well as a 12-speed I-Shift transmission with one or two extra crawler gears that “provide low-speed control” and help the vehicle “reach maximum highway speeds with faster rear axle ratios,” Volvo explains.

    Raising The Bar

“For years, the Volvo VHD has been one of the most capable and versatile trucks on the jobsite. We listened to our customers, and are proud to showcase the newly updated VHD with the same class-leading features and technological innovations our customers expect from a Volvo truck with relevant and important updates that benefit the functional needs of vocational applications,” says John Felder, product marketing manager at Volvo Trucks North America. “At Volvo Trucks, we continue to improve our product offerings and we have done so for an already tough vocational truck model. Now, this smarter and more innovative VHD for the vocational market raises the bar on what it takes to be an all-around great work truck.”
