Kenworth Introduces New Airbrake Package For K370 Cabover Truck
Kenworth now offers a new airbrake package for its medium-duty K370 cabover truck. The new configuration keeps the K370’s 12,000-pound (5,443-kilogram) front axle but adds a 23,000-lb (10,433-kg) rear axle, giving it a larger 35,000-lb (15,876-kg) gross combination weight rating (GCWR). The package includes 22.5-inch tires and 16.5- by 7-in brakes (Kenworth notes that this option isn't available with rear disc brakes), and customers can choose between a Dana S23-172 or S23-172E rear axle.
More Choices
“This enhancement for the Kenworth K370 cabover offers customers with more choices to expand the product line into a wider range of medium-duty applications,” says Laura Bloch, assistant general manager for sales and marketing at Kenworth. “The K370 provides customers with excellent maneuverability and ease of service.”
The K370 Up Close
The K370’s cabover construction gives it a shorter bumper to back of cab (BBC) length of 63.4 in, which means it can handle longer bodies and “haul more payload with a shorter overall length,” according to Kenworth. It also has a 55-degree wheel cut that gives it a tight turning radius. This makes it ideal for operating in urban environments with sharp corners and more compact roadways. Kenworth says it also has “enhanced visibility” thanks to its “large windshield” and has seating for up to three people.
The K370 comes standard with a PACCAR PX-7 engine that produces up to 260 horsepower (194 kilowatts) and 660 pounds-foot (895 newton-metres) of torque, although the PX-7 engine itself is available in configurations ranging from 200 to 360 hp (149 to 268 kW) with torque ratings of between 520 and 800 lbf-ft (705 and 1,085 N-m). The cabover also features an Allison 2100 HS five-speed automatic transmission.
