SAAM Orders 16 Kalmar Ottawa T2 Terminal Tractors To Operate At Chilean & Ecuadorian Terminals
SAAM, a Chilean company with operations in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, and the United States, recently ordered 16 Kalmar Ottawa T2 terminal tractors, or yard spotter trucks, with 11 going to its Antonio Terminal Internacional in Chile and five to its Guayaquil terminal in Ecuador. Kalmar, a Cargotec company, plans to deliver the vehicles in Q4 2020.
A Common Goal
“We have chosen to continue with Kalmar terminal tractors when expanding our equipment fleet because we know they will deliver the operational efficiency and safety that we expect,” says SAAM Corporate Procurement Partner, Ports Division, Orlando Faundez Rojas. “Furthermore, our organizations share a common goal to deliver excellent customer service while respecting the environment and communities where we operate.”
More Kalmar Ottawa T2 Details
The T2 terminal tractor is available in DOT/EPA-certified and off-road configurations, and the cab features an integrated ROPS (roll-over protection system) structure, as well as a digital instrument cluster and suspended brake and throttle pedals. Its air lines are color coded for quick connections, and engine options include Cummins B6.7 units that produce between 173 and 250 horsepower (129 and 186 kilowatts) and from 590 to 660 pounds-foot (800 to 895 newton-meters) of torque. The T2 also comes standard with an Allison 3500RDS transmission. Optional features include heavy-duty axles, radio with Bluetooth support, trailer stops, and more.
SAAM will also take advantage of Kalmar Insight for all of its new terminal tractors. The telematics platform allows fleet managers to keep track of fuel efficiency, idle time, operations hours, and other metrics to ensure the vehicles are running as efficiently as possible. It’s also a way to monitor usage for predictive maintenance purposes.
