International Introduces Next HX Series Trucks, Including HX520 Set-Forward & HX620 Set-Back Axle
International recently introduced the latest iteration of its HX Series truck, which will be available in an HX520 set-forward axle or HX620 set-back axle configurations in early 2021. One prominent upgrade is the new extreme-duty cab, which features a more durable three-piece hood, additional protection from ChemGuard, LINE-X, and International’s proprietary topcoat process, as well as a high-strength steel frame. Also adding to the truck’s overall durability is a Huck-bolted frame and crossmembers and the option for a 12.5- by 0.5-inch single-rail frame design.
Other cab features include external air cleaners, LED lights, large power windows, and what parent company Navistar claims is a best-in-class HVAC system. Options include stainless-steel visors, bright finish mirrors, and the Diamond Elite trim package with heated and ventilated seats, Bendix driver assistance, and much more.
“The cab interior is the driver's command center, so every inch needs to be attuned to their needs,” says Mark Stasell, vice president, vocational truck, at Navistar. “Designed directly from driver feedback, the new HX Series is built to be the most driver-oriented vehicle in your fleet.”
Power & Performance
The HX620 comes standard with International’s A26 engine, which produces up to 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts); Navistar also offers the option for a Cummins X15 engine for the HX620 and HX520 that produces up to 605 hp (451 kW) and 2,050 pounds-foot (2,779 newton-meters) of torque. Transmission options for both models include Allison 4000 Series, Eaton Fuller manual, and Eaton Ultrashift automated manual transmissions.
HX Series trucks now also come standard with Hendrickson HAULMAXX HMX-EX suspensions and International offers options for steerable lift axles with the ability to locate the controls on the dashboard’s wing panel. Other options include dual steering gears and an anti-lock braking system. Together, all of these features are designed to improve the trucks’ performance and make them safer. Speaking of, International also has an option to add a front tow pin rated at up to 150,000 pounds (68,039 kilograms) “for the rare occasion a driver does get stuck,” the company explains.
Connectivity Features
Navistar has equipped International HX trucks with the Diamond Logic electrical system, which International says is “integrated, easily programmable, and customizable.” This system not only makes it easier to install bodywork, but also to power and operate it. OnCommand Connection is another prominent technology and acts as a remote diagnostics system for fleet managers that encourages preventative/predictive maintenance and improves uptime. Rounding out the connectivity feature-set is International 360, fleet management service that connects transporter companies with International’s extensive network of service providers and technicians.
