Peterbilt recently introduced the latest iteration of its Model 579, which the company is saying is the most technologically advanced truck it has ever produced. As evidence of that, the manufacturer points to the 15-inch Digital Dash Display, the smart steering wheel, and Bluetooth microphone, as well as the suite of standard driver safety and assistance systems, including collision mitigation, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and more.

The manufacturer put a lot of work into the latest iteration of the 579, enlisting the help of more than 50 customers to accumulate 1.5 million miles (2.4 million kilometers) of real-world test data. The company also put the vehicle to the test at the PACCAR Technical Center. All of this effort led to creating what the company says is the most reliable truck it has ever designed. The new Model 579 is now available for order.

    New Features, Inside & Out

Peterbilt also emphasized aerodynamics and comfort with the design of the new Model 579. It features a sloped hood and several aerodynamic components on the outside and a 10% quieter cab and sleeper compartment, according to the company, as well as added storage on the inside. Available cabs include a day cab or one of the many sleeper options, including the 80-in UltraLoft.

The Peterbilt 579 will also be available with the 2021 iterations of the PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines, which range from 335 to 510 horsepower (250 to 380 kilowatts) and produce between 1,250 and 1,850 pounds-foot (1,695 and 2,508 newton-meters) of torque.

    “Relentless Focus”

“The launch of the new Model 579 is a huge moment for Peterbilt and our customers,” says Jason Skoog, general manager of Peterbilt and vice president of PACCAR. “This new product is the result of five years of relentless focus on increasing fuel economy, taking driver comfort to new heights, and maximizing uptime. This new truck delivers the next level of performance for our customers and continues Peterbilt’s legacy of being the ‘Class’ of the industry.”
