Isuzu Unveils Model Year 2022i Diesel-Powered N-Series Trucks, Including Updated NPR-HD, NPR-XD, NQR & NRR Trucks
Isuzu has unveiled several new features and upgrades coming to its N-Series diesel trucks for what it is referring to as its 2022 interim model year, or 2022i, lineup, which includes the NPR-HD, NPR-XD, NQR, and NRR. The new trucks will variously offer interior and exterior changes, optional driver assistance systems, and much more.
Isuzu announced the news as part of the virtual National Truck Equipment Association’s (NTEA) Work Truck Week 2021 trade show, which ran from March 8 to 12. The NTEA has also made the event available on demand until April 9. The new 2022i N-Series trucks will enter production in July, and they will be available for purchase beginning in the third quarter of this year.
“The positive economic outlook for 2021 suggests that the medium-duty segment will grow this year,” says Shaun C. Skinner, president of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America and Isuzu Commercial Truck of Canada. “These changes to the foundation of our lineup—our Class 3 through 5 N-Series diesel-powered trucks—respond to our customers’ requests and come at the perfect time to take advantage of growth in this segment.”
Redesigned Inside & Out
Isuzu redesigned the interior of the N-Series Hexapod cab to have a mix of dark colors and accents on the lower half complemented by lighter colors on the upper half to “create a greater sense of spaciousness.” The exterior now features bi-LED headlights, redesigned turn signals, and a matte silver grille with an option to upgrade to chrome. Isuzu also upgraded the fuel sedimenter, made the water separator body translucent red, and added options for 35- and 55-gallon (132- and 208-liter) aluminum fuel tanks in addition to the standard 30-gal (114-L) tank, which is now constructed of stainless steel.
Standard & Optional Safety Features
All diesel-powered Isuzu N-Series trucks come standard with electronic vehicle stability control and anti-slip regulation for improved stability and grip, but now Isuzu offers an optional new advanced driver assistance system that comes with an automatic emergency braking system that provides audio and visual warnings before acting, and a lane departure warning system. Isuzu still offers the Mobileye collision and lane departure warning systems, as well.
All N-Series trucks will now come standard with rear disc brakes in addition to the front disc brakes. The new brakes, along with the included antilock braking system, form Isuzu’s Vacuum + Power Assist Brake System. It adds a hydraulic unit that applies extra pressure “at the limit point of normal vacuum assist,” Isuzu explains.
