New Diesel-Powered F-Series Marks Isuzu’s First Foray Into Class 7 Trucks
Isuzu Commercial Truck of America has announced November 2021 availability for its new 2022 F-Series cabover trucks. The F-Series includes models in both Class 6 and 7 weight classes, the latter being a first for Isuzu. It will be available next month at more than 300 Isuzu dealerships in the U.S. and Canada.
Available Configurations
The new F-Series is assembled in Charlotte, Michigan. Trucks will be offered in Class 6 FTR and Class 6 FVR Derate models, both with a 25,950-pound (11,770-kilogram) gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), as well as in a Class 7 FVR model with a 33,000-lb (14,970-kg) GVWR. The truck’s automatic six-speed Allison RDS transmission comes with a park pawl in the FTR and without a park pawl in FVR trucks.
Isuzu builds the F-Series in eight wheelbase options ranging from 152 to 248 inches (3,861 to 6,300 millimeters), which accept bodies from 14 to 30 feet (4.27 to 9.14 meters) in length. The trucks feature tight turning diameters of 43.7 to 65 ft (13.3 to 19.8 m), depending on the wheelbase, thanks to a 50-degree inner wheel cut. The wheelbase length also determines whether a truck receives a 50- or 100-gallon (189- or 379-liter) fuel tank. Options for the F-Series include an air suspension and low-profile tires.
Low Cab-Forward Design Benefits
Compared to trucks with a conventional cab design, Isuzu’s low cab-forward (LCF) vehicles including the F-Series allow more room for truck bodies or cargo. The new truck family’s Hexapod day cab has seating for three. Without the long hood of a conventional design, the comfortable cab provides the driver with excellent visibility, which is aided by new LED headlamps as needed.
Cummins Power
The new F-Series truck line is propelled by an efficient, 260-horsepower (194-kilowatt) Cummins B6.7 diesel engine. The 6.7-liter, inline six-cylinder produces 660 pounds-foot (895 newton-meters) of torque.
“The advanced, more powerful Cummins B6.7 engine will create new opportunities for our dealers,” says Isuzu Commercial Truck of America President Shaun Skinner. “We now offer a complete range of Class 3 through 5 gasoline-powered models and Class 4 through 7 diesel-powered trucks, by far the widest range of low-cab-forward trucks in the marketplace.”
