(3,912-mm) BBC, four-door crew cab. Vocational upfits available with a new M2 106 include dry van, utility truck, rollback, and dump truck configurations.

Manual, automated manual, and automatic transmissions are each available as are various suspension systems. Options To Shop For
Besides aluminum wheels and other traditional upgrades, Freightliner M2 106 trucks have several other options you might wish to look for as you examine units for sale. For instance, 2011 and later M2 106 trucks have the SmartPlex multiplex electrical system, which greatly facilitates the upfitting and customization processes without the need to splice wiring. SmartPlex is programmable and can add features to the truck such as automatically slowing down the windshield wipers when the transmission is in park.
Another desirable technology option in recent M2 106 vehicles is the Meritor WABCO OnGuard ACTIVE safety system. This radar-equipped system provides forward collision warning, emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Lane departure warning systems such as WABCO OnLane and Bendix AutoVue provide active lane assistance to help drivers stay between the lines.
Many late-model M2 106 trucks have LED headlight upgrades as a selling point. A 55-degree front wheel cut for the tightest possible turning capabilities is available with the Detroit front axle option. The truck is sold in clear frame rail and clear back-of-cab frame rail configurations, as well as with an optional full inner-frame reinforcement for heavy-duty applications. Note that recent M2 106 trucks with Detroit engines can take advantage of Detroit Connect Virtual Technician diagnostic services.
A comfort feature of interest is air-suspended mounts to dampen cab vibration. Some truck shoppers prefer two single seats in the cabin, while other buyers hold out for a unit with a two-person bench seat on the passenger side. An available Fresnel window in the lower front passenger door provides better visibility on the curb side of the vehicle, while aluminum kickplates can protect the lower interior panels of the doors from scuffs and scrapes. Freightliner offers a wing-style dashboard for the M2 106, which moves the truck’s controls and gauges closer to the driver and frees up space for eight additional accessory switches. Finally, a heated windshield option can defog and defrost the glass more rapidly than a traditional defroster with a cold engine.
