Kenworth Delivers 10,000th T680 Next Generation, Reaches Milestone In Just 15 Months

“It is an honor for System Transport to be selected to receive Kenworth’s 10,000th T680 Next Generation,” says Jim Williams, founder and chairman of System Transport parent company Trans-System. (Photo courtesy of Kenworth.)

Although it’s been just 15 months since the launch of Kenworth's T680 Next Generation, the sleek, aerodynamic truck appears to have found its footing in the truck market. At an event held on May 25 in Spokane, Washington, dealer Kenworth Sales Company delivered the 10,000th T680 Next Gen truck to long-time Kenworth operator System Transport, which has purchased more than 60 T680 Next Gen trucks so far. The delivery coincided with System Transport’s 50th anniversary celebration.

“This is a special moment for Kenworth and Kenworth Sales Company as we deliver the 10,000th T680 Next Generation just 15 months after product launch to System Transport in celebration of its 50th anniversary,” says Hank Johnson, Kenworth general sales manager, West and medium-duty. “We thank System Transport, and all our T680 Next Gen customers, for their business.”

    The Milestone T680 Next Gen

The milestone vehicle is a 76-inch (193-centimeter) mid-roof sleeper, the tallest T680 sleeper configuration available. The T680 Next Gen is also available with 40- and 52-in. (102- and 132-cm) sleeper cabs, as well as a day cab. The truck can be spec’d with PACCAR power plants with power ratings from 405 to 510 horsepower (302 to 380 kilowatts) and from 1,550 to 1,850 pounds-foot (2,101 to 2,508 newton-meters) of maximum torque.

    Next Gen Features

The T680 Next Gen builds on Kenworth’s classic T680 profile with improved aerodynamics thanks to a narrower hood and grille, A-pillar turning vanes, front air dams, redesigned chassis fairings, and optional 28-in. (71-cm) side extenders. The truck is equipped with Kenworth’s Next Gen SmartWheel, which gives drivers easy access to a variety of frequently used systems, such as the cruise control, trip computer, a variable road speed limiter, a customizable shortcut button, and scrolling and selection of the truck’s built-in 15-inch HD digital display. Also included are driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, side object detection, and collision mitigation.

Along with the presentation of the milestone T680, Kenworth dealer Kenworth Sales Company gifted System Transport with a refurbished 1965 W900 (shown above left) to commemorate the freight hauler’s 50th anniversary. (Photo courtesy of Kenworth.)

    A Special Gift

Kenworth Sales Company brought another truck to System Transport’s 50th anniversary celebration: a fully refurbished and operational 1965 Kenworth W900. The special anniversary gift was presented by Kyle Treadway, president of Kenworth Sales Company.

“We have maintained an excellent partnership with System Transport throughout the decades,” Treadway says. “On behalf of Kenworth Sales Company and all our employees, we congratulate System Transport on its 50th anniversary.”
