Freightliner Introduces Business Class M2 & Vocational SD Series Plus Models
With its newly introduced Plus models for Freightliner's M2 and SD series, Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is enhancing the interior of the trucks, as well as their safety systems and powertrain options. The complete lineup of new Plus variants include the M2 106 Plus, M2 112 Plus, 108SD Plus, and 114SD Plus.
“We listened to fleet owners and drivers, and redesigned one of the most widely trusted medium-duty trucks on the market to make it even better,” says David Carson, senior vice president, sales and marketing, DTNA. “The Plus series provides Freightliner customers the same reliable workhorses they have counted on to add dollars to their bottom line for years, now packed with additional features to further benefit their operators and increase productivity even more.”
Interior Upgrades
The Plus models’ fully customizable switch layout and dash panel represent major improvements. The dash offers more than double the space than previous designs, helping drivers to more quickly and easily find key information. Freightliner also equips a transmission control stalk that allows for automated manual and automatic shifting, as well as engine braking functions from the column to offer drivers more control. To improve comfort, the all-new Plus trim levels provide better insulation that both muffles external noise and increases thermal efficiency.
Detroit Assurance & Detroit Connect Suite
The Detroit Assurance suite of safety systems, previously available on Freightliner’s Cascadia models, is now available on the Plus models, thanks in part to a new electrical architecture. The QuickFit Electrical System makes it easier to install these systems to the trucks, making available such driver assistance features as active brake assist and lane departure warning.
By Q3 2022, when DTNA expects to start series production, the brand expects the Plus models will also include adaptive cruise control. The Business Class M2 and SD vocational trucks’ Plus models also gain access to the Detroit Connect Suite, providing telematics like remote diagnostic services, Detroit Connect Analytics, and tools to monitor driver safety performance.
More Advanced Powertrains
The Freightliner 114SD Plus can be equipped with Detroit’s latest heavy-duty engine, the DD13 Gen 5, as well as the Detroit DT 12-V transmission. Daimler says the 114SD Plus will offer new vocational power ratings and performance to go along with the new powertrain options. The Plus series can also be powered by Cummins B6.7, L9, and X12 diesel engine options or L9N and ISX12N natural gas-powered engines.
