Mack Trucks Will Showcase MD Electric & LR Electric At ACT Expo
Mack Trucks' booth at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2023 will be electric. Specifically, Mack has announced it will display the recently revealed MD Electric alongside its LR Electric refuse vehicle. ACT Expo runs May 1 to 4 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, and attendees can visit booth 5667 to get an up-close look at the first and second battery-electric vehicles from Mack Trucks.
MD ElectricM
Mack will offer the MD Electric in Class 6 and Class 7 ratings. The Class 6 model, which will be present at ACT Expo, has a 25,995-pound (11,790-kilogram) gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). The Class 7 has a 33,000-lb (15,000-kg) GVWR. The new truck has a three-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor and on-board accessories powered by lithium nickel manganese cobalt (Li-NMC) batteries in either a 150- or 240-kilowatt-hour configuration. When equipped with the 240-kWh battery package, the MD Electric has an estimated range of 230 miles (370 kilometers). Both the MD Electric and LR Electric are equipped with regenerative braking, which allows the trucks to recapture energy from the frequent stops they make throughout the workday.
LR Electric
Mack’s first LR Electric models went into production in December 2021, and it was the first all-electric truck available from the manufacturer. Mack launched the next-generation LR Electric in March 2022, equipping it a battery capacity of 376 kWh from four Li-NMC batteries that charge in approximately 120 minutes at 150 kilowatts. At ACT Expo, Mack will display a Class 8 refuse truck with a 66,000-lb (29,937-kg) GVWR. With its twin electric motors, the LR Electric produces 334 kW (448 horsepower) and 4,051 pounds-foot (5,492 newton-meters) of peak torque.
