Sunflower Unveils New Precision-Farming Till Control System For Tillage & Seeding Oversight

Variations in soil conditions, soil type, and residue levels can make for uneven seedbeds, which in turn can negatively impact seed singulation, spacing, planting depth, emergence, and crop yield. Sunflower, an AGCO brand that manufactures seeding equipment and tillage implements, aims to help farmers produce more uniform seedbeds with its new Till Control precision-farming system. The system provides operators with in-cab monitoring, more control capabilities, and more. As Larry Kuster, AGCO senior product marketing specialist, says, using the system’s touchscreen to adjust equipment to match changing field conditions “goes a long way in achieving a consistent, uniform seedbed” while also reducing mechanical-adjustment chores.

    Intelligent Tillage

Till Control is initially available with Sunflower’s SF6830 high-speed rotary finisher, SF1436 Series disc harrows, and SF6631 Series vertical tillage tools. With the SF6830, the system lets operators continually monitor the rotary finishers’ two intermeshed, hydraulic-level gangs of Rotary Spider tines to ensure soil is level and crop residue is equally mixed across the machine’s entire width. The system can also set the tines to the best working depth by limiting the pressure cylinders can place on the tines after setting the machine to working depth. Once set, the tine gangs are hydraulically locked into position and only need to be reset if the operator wants to alter the rest of the machine’s target working depth.

With the SF1436 and SF6631 Series, Till Control lets operators monitor and adjust the fore and aft frame and the hydraulic lift system. In addition to monitoring tillage depth, the system ensures slave cylinders on the wings stay in phase with the center master lift cylinders. Operators can restore the level or re-phase the cylinders by raising the implement fully out of the ground, Sunflower says.

    ISO-Compatible

Till Control enables all three implements to communicate with ISO-compliant terminals in tractors. Besides an implement-recognition feature that automatically displays implement data, operators can view service intervals, receive maintenance notifications, and track field and lifetime total acres and hours worked.
