John Deere has unveiled its largest sprayer to date, the R4060, with a 1,600-gallon (6,057-liter), stainless-steel tank. The unit comes with either a 120-foot (36.6-meter) or 132-foot (40.2-meter) carbon fiber boom.

In other news, the company says that its existing 1,200-gallon (4,542-liter) R4045 sprayer now comes standard with the new CommandDrive hydrostatic all-wheel-drive powertrain, as does the R4060.

Both sprayers are designed for high-volume application over large fields, John Deere says. Both will be available in June.

    CommandDrive

The green-and-yellow ag giant says that its new CommandDrive puts more power to the ground and increases traction, while at the same time improving fuel economy and providing a quieter ride for the operator.

"Farmers and ag service providers operating the R4060 and updated R4045 will see an immediate improvement in how these machines run in the field and on the road," says John Deere Product Manager for sprayers, Lindsey Pollock.

CommandDrive powers all four variable-displacement wheel motors with a single hydrostatic pump. It redirects flow from slipping tires to the others for better traction.

“The R4060 and redesigned R4045 can help operators traverse wide-ranging field conditions and hilly terrain in order to make accurate applications faster and more comfortably than before," Pollock says.

CommandDrive tells the engine to automatically increase speed as needed to maintain travel speed and application rate. There’s also an Auto Idle setting to bring the RPMs down when the sprayer has stopped moving. Both features enhance fuel economy, Deere says.

"The combination of the new CommandDrive, plus all the integrated technologies, makes these sprayers extremely efficient, precise, and comfortable to own and operate," says Pollock.

    Other Features

2020 model year sprayers will come standard with additional Precision Ag features, according to the manufacturer. Besides new Generation 4 CommandCenter displays and AutoTrac, new JD sprayers will include five years of JDLink telematics. The Remote Display Access feature lets you keep tabs on sprayer operation from afar.

The R4060 and R4045 both come with a multifunction control handle with customizable buttons, as well as the Headland Management System to automate turns at the end of the row.

Optional features include AutoTrac Vision and RowSense to keep the sprayer on the right path, the ExactApply nozzle control system to keep the spray pattern and droplet size uniform across the whole boom at different speeds, and Mobile Weather to log conditions in the field and soil.
