Kuhn North America has introduced a new KUHN VB (Variable Baler) 7100 Series of round balers to the North American market that it claims sets “a new standard in round baling.” Introduced to Europe in 2019, the series includes the VB 7160 4x5 and VB 7190 4x6 models. Both are available with either Kuhn’s patented non-cutting OptiFeed or cutting OptiCut integral rollers. Among other features, the balers include Kuhn’s patented i-Dense intelligent twin-tension arm system that combines with moisture sensing to automatically adjust baling pressure based on the crop and conditions in the field.

    Max Lifetime, Minimum Downtime

Kuhn says the 7100 Series round balers are high-performance models that produce dense, high-capacity bales in all crop conditions. The company also claims the balers’ heavy-duty design “guarantees maximum lifetime with minimum downtime.” The balers can produce straw bales with densities reaching up to 8.8 pounds per cubic foot (140 kilograms per cubic meter) thanks to the i-Dense system and their four-belt, three-roller design. Kuhn also claims the balers offer the market’s fastest tailgate operation, with bales being ejected and the tailgate closing in just four seconds.

    Get Your Bales In Shape

ISOBUS compatibility means operators can access and change bale density, net wrap layer, and other settings using their tractor’s in-cab ISOBUS terminal or through a KUHN CCI 50, CCI 800, or CCI 1200 terminal. The balers’ net wrap system is equipped with active stretch technology designed to ensure a firm bale shape; the system runs at 90% of the bale’s rotational speed to enable net stretching without breaking. “After leaving the bale chamber, the bale will not expand, and, therefore, it will hold its density,” Kuhn says. The balers also include pivoting pickup wheels to help adjust to varying field conditions and the BEKA-MAX automatic chain oiling system that enables individually adjusting how much oil is on each chain.
