Updated John Deere 2022 Model Year 9 Series Tractors Promise To Work More Acres In Less Time

    Posted On: March 5, 2021

John Deere introduced its updated 2022 model year 9 Series tractors this week with the claim they’ll enable operators to cover more acres in less time thanks to additional power, time-saving precision technologies, and other features. (Photo courtesy of Deere & Company.)

More power, additional technologies, reduced operating costs, and more acres covered in less time are among the benefits John Deere says you can expect from its newly introduced model year 2022 9 Series tractors. The lineup’s 9R wheel, 9RT two-track, and 9RX four-track variants feature a larger, updated cab with automotive-like features and other inclusions that make all-day operation comfortable. The largest 9R 640 and 9RX 640 models use a Cummins 15-liter diesel engine; the others leverage an all-new Deere powerplant.

"Farmers will appreciate the added low-end torque and lugging ability of the all-new John Deere PowerTech 13.6-liter diesel engine,” says Ryan Jardon, Deere product marketing manager. “This engine powers models with 390 to 590 horsepower and runs with 50% less engine noise. It’s also easier to perform routine maintenance on.”

The wheeled 9R 640 and four-track 9RX 640 models top Deere’s updated MY2022 9 Series tractor lineup. Both use a Cummins 15-liter diesel engine rated for 640 max horsepower. Other 9 Series tractors use a 13.6-liter Deere PowerTech diesel engine that Deere says reduces engine noise by 50%. (Photo courtesy of Deere & Company.)

    The “Perfect” Performance Boost

Six 9R models from 390 to 640 horsepower (290 to 477 kilowatts) are available with various tire options and a HydraCushion suspension option. HydraCushion reduces tractor bounce, enhances ride quality, and lessens potential for in-field powerhop, putting more power to the ground. Three 9RT models available from 470 to 570 HP (350 to 425 kW) include an AirCushion walking beam suspension. Four 9RX models from 490 (365 kW) to 640 HP, meanwhile, mark the industry’s highest horsepower levels in a four-track tractor, Deere says. There are also a number of track-width and tread-spacing options available.

Buyers can order the 9RT 570 and 9R/9RX 590 and 640 models with hydraulic Intelligent Power Management (IPM), which provides up to 50 extra horsepower (37 kW) depending on the gear. “It's the perfect performance boost when pulling equipment through tough terrain or over large hills, or with high hydraulic demands, such as air-seeding rigs,” Jardon says.

The new 9 Series tractors come factory-equipped with JDLink connectivity, an integrated StarFire 6000 GPS receiver, a Generation 4 CommandCenter display, and AutoTrac guidance technology, along with support for Deere’s Wireless Data Transfer, Connected Support, and other technologies. Cab Comfort

Deere is including five years of JDLink connectivity and an integrated StarFire 6000 receiver, Generation 4 CommandCenter display, and AutoTrac guidance as standard. The series’ restyled, larger cab includes more USB ports, improved connectivity, and optional smartphone-ready 6.5-inch touchscreen satellite radio with voice command support and integrated controls. Select, Premium, and Ultimate cab packages offering differing comfort, LED, climate control, wiper, camera, and other options are available. A Signature Edition package combines the packages’ best features and adds a Gen 4 Extended display, dual hydraulic pumps, and other features.
