Volvo Construction Equipment recently refreshed its H-Series wheel loaders, which are already well-known for their performance, power, and reliability. Volvo designed its upgraded H-Series wheel loaders to be the ideal machine for everything from material handling and recycling to re-handling, slag handling, and block handling. Compared to the G-Series, the H-Series 2.0 machines support faster cycle times, up to 10% improved productivity, and up to 20% better fuel efficiency. Volvo’s family of updated wheel loaders consists of the L150H, L180H, L220H, and L260H, with more to join in the near future.

The new H-series L220 has a peak operating weight of up to 72,970 pounds (33,099 kilograms) and a static tipping load at full turn of 46,110 pounds (20,915 kilograms). (Photo courtesy of Volvo Construction Equipment.)

    The Big Difference

According to Volvo, the redesigned wheel loaders come equipped with a game-changing transmission, which features shorter steps between gears, which results in faster acceleration and a smoother operation. The second-generation OptiShift technology lets operators adjust the lock-up engagement of the machine, take advantage of the Volvo-patented Reverse-By-Braking (RBB) function, and get better performance at low speeds with the new torque converter.

Another standout feature of the H-Series 2.0 machines is the second-generation load-sensing hydraulics, which improve attachment responsiveness and deliver faster lifting and lowering speeds for the boom.

    Versatile & Fuel-Efficient

The newly optimized engine and transmission, combined with a dry P-brake capable of eliminating drag losses, dramatically improve the fuel efficiency of the H-Series. Other fuel-saving features include a new hydraulic system that regenerates the oil in the lift/tilt cylinder circuits and deactivates the hydraulic pumps; and the eco pedal, which literally “pushes back” under excessive use of the accelerator.

The new wheel loaders support a wide variety of Volvo attachments, such as forks, grapples, buckets, and more. The H-Series also supports a handful of features that make using those attachments easier than ever, including a bucket leveling function that lets the bucket automatically return to level from dump and curl positions. Available options include your choice of single- or multi-lever controls, three hydraulic modes, and an optional Comfort Drive Control lever, which eases steering in fast-paced loading and unloading situations. The Boom Suspension System add-on reduces bucket spillage when using the machine on rough ground. Another option available for the H-Series is the Load Assist system, which consists of a 10-inch (254-millimeter) Co-Pilot touchscreen display that helps the operator keep track of the loads hauled, reduces under- and over-loading, and virtually eliminates the need for reweighing.

    Volvo Has You Covered

To hammer home Volvo’s confidence in its products, the new H-Series wheel loaders come with a lifetime frame and structure warranty, which covers the frame, articulation joint, and loader arm for the life of the machine under the initial owner. Customers who opt to activate CareTrack also get a free year of Volvo ActiveCare Direct for their H-Series wheel loader; ActiveCare Direct is Volvo’s exclusive telematics service that delivers machine monitoring and fleet utilization reporting.
