CASE Construction Equipment just announced two new motor graders for small-to-mid-size grading operations. The 836C and 856C represent the all-new C Series from the company.

CASE says that the C Series is aimed at municipalities as well as contractors doing site prep, road maintenance, and general construction. The graders come in both standard and all-wheel-drive variants, and use Tier 4 Final-compliant engines with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).

    Drive Details

The standard-drive 836C is rated at 138 to 156 horsepower (103 to 116 kilowatts) with an operating weight of 24,466 pounds (11,098 kilograms). Its big brother, the standard-drive 856C, has 173 to 190 horsepower (129 to 142 kW) and an operating weight of 33,966 pounds (15,407 kg).

The all-wheel-drive versions of the pair are the 836C AWD at 138-156 horsepower (103 to 116 kW) and 27,128 pounds (12,305 kg) and the 856C AWD at 173 to 190 HP and 34,848 pounds (15,807 kg). The AWD variants come with a very slow Creep Mode for fine detail work, such as finish grading.

CASE says that the C Series’ Ergopower automatic transmission and torque converter provide smooth shifting on the go. A hydraulic differential lock and automatic power splitting transmit torque away from a slipping wheel to a wheel with better grip.

    Good Grades

The C Series graders give you superb control over your grading through advanced hydraulics and operator feel, CASE says. High-precision load-sensing keeps the hydraulic pressure steady and even, while direct-mounted user controls give you positive feedback with minimal play. A high-carbon steel moldboard, rigid A-frame drawbar, and hydraulically controlled five-position saddle do the work.

The 836C and 856C are available from the factory ready for precision and machine control systems from major vendors. They’re also easy to service and maintain, CASE says. The company built the graders’ cabs for operator comfort with a standard heated air-ride seat, as well as for visibility with an optional 7-inch rear-view LCD.

Finally, each grader includes three years of CASE ProCare, which comprises telematics, warranty, and planned maintenance services.
