JLG Launches 400 Series High-Capacity Telescopic Boom Lifts At ARA Show

Lift equipment manufacturer JLG launched a 400 Series of engine-powered, high-capacity telescopic boom lifts at American Rental Association’s ARA Show in Orlando, Florida, earlier this week. The series includes the high-capacity 40-foot (12-meter) JLG 400S and 46-ft (14-m) JLG 460SJ models, which JLG says provide operators with an “expanded work envelope and three different capacity zones” to deliver greater reach compared to competitor models that support just one or two capacity zones.

    Three Zones

The new high-capacity 400 Series models fall within JLG’s telescopic boom lift lineup that also includes the 400 Crawler Series, 600 Crawler Series, 600 Series, 800 Series, and Ultra Series lineups. JLG says both the high-capacity 400S and 460SJ come standard with support for a 660-pound (300-kilogram) unrestricted zone, as well as 750-lb (340-kg) and 1,000-lb (454-kg) restricted-capacity zones. Such support enables operators to bring more tools and personnel to the work area, JLG says. Bill Dovey, JLG senior product manager for booms, says the new series “not only delivers on the productivity front, but is also rated for up to three personnel in the platform for all capacity zones.”

The ANSI 92.20-compliant 400S and 460SJ are heavier than standard model counterparts but retain the same footprint, JLG notes. “With the ANSI 92.20 standards set to publish in the near future, we anticipate higher-capacity booms to become increasingly popular,” Dovey says. He says to comply with the new standards, boom lifts must incorporate an LSS (load-sensing system) that limits a machine’s operation when the platform is overloaded to automatically keep the operation within an allowable work envelope. “We believe this will drive the industry toward these higher-capacity models to maximize productivity,” he says.

Both the 400S and 460SJ feature a new LED display with enhanced platform and ground console visibility. Sensitive to ambient light, the display adjusts its brightness to provide maximum visibility and operator comfort, JLG says. Elsewhere, the 400S provides 33.5 ft (10.21 m) of horizontal outreach, and the 460SJ provides 39 ft (11.89 m).
