Komatsu Introduces New D155CX-8 Pipelayer At CONEXPO
Komatsu enlisted the help of pipeline companies as it developed its new D155CX-8 pipelayer, which made its debut last week at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG show in Las Vegas. The new machine and its K170 pipelayer package have a lift capacity of 170,000 pounds (77.1 metric tons). A 24-foot (7.3-meter) boom comes standard; a 28-ft (8.5-m) boom is available as an option. Komatsu will release the new D155CX-8 later this year.
Building Energy Infrastructure
The D155CX-8’s oval track undercarriage is built to keep the 120,970-lb (54,870-kilogram) machine stable, even on slopes. Komatsu optimized its weight distribution as well, and gave it a long track-on-ground length of 12 feet, 10 inches (3.9 meters). The tractor uses sealed and lubricated tracks.
The 354-net-horsepower, direct-injection Komatsu engine in the new pipelayer meets Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The transmission is a three-speed TORQFLOW with a hydraulic clutch. The D155CX-8 employs a closed-center load-sensing hydraulic system. A Palm Command Control System lever controls its hydrostatic steering. The machine can travel at up to 7.2 mph (11.6 km/h).
Available options for the D155CX-8 include a load moment indicator and an extra camera on the right-hand counterweight.
And Another Thing
Komatsu also showed its low-ground pressure D155PX-8 crawler dozer at CONEXPO. Like the company’s new pipelayer, the machine is aimed at the energy industry and pipeline work. Blade options for the wide-gauge, long-track dozer include semi-U units and Komatsu’s manual angle power tilt (MAPT) blade.
