In four short years, MECALAC North America grew from one dealer to 15, including locations in Florida, Missouri, and Washington in the United States and Montreal, Quebec, in Canada. The company recently took this year’s CONEXPO/CON-AGG trade show as an opportunity to highlight several of its urban construction machines, including excavators, swing loaders (articulated wheel loaders), and site dumpers.

    MWR Series Excavators

MWR wheeled excavators offer “the stability of a crawler on wheels,” according to MECALAC, which has much to do with their low center of gravity. This allows them to lift more weight despite having smaller proportions, and thanks to 360-degree iso stability, they remain stable “regardless of the rotation angle of the upper carriage,” the company explains. Other features include a low-entry cab door for safer access, controls for parking, working, or traveling on the road all in on the central selector, and a compact design that allows them to work in tight areas.

This series includes the 7MWR, 9MWR, and 11MWR. Powered by 75-horsepower (56-kilowatt) engines, these machines range in weight from 15,267 to 24,251 pounds (6,925 to 11,000 kilograms) and have maximum traveling speeds of between 12.4 and 21.7 mph (20 and 35 km/h). The smallest model in the range is the 7MWR. It has a maximum reach of 20 feet, 4 inches (6.2 meters), max digging depth of 9 ft, 11 in (3 m), max dumping height of 16 ft, 3 in (5 m), rotation width of 9 ft, 1 in (2.8 m), and max bucket capacity of 0.7 cubic yards (0.5 cubic meters). It also produces a penetration force of 5,620 pound-force (2,500 decanewtons) and a digging force of 9,689 lbf (4,309.9 daN).

    MCR Series Excavators

MECALAC believes that speed is the primary benefit of its MCR crawler excavators, with each model having traveling speeds of around 6 mph (9.7 km/h). Another standout feature is the excavators’ boom, which “folds 130 degrees backward” to act “as a natural counterweight” and improve the stability of the machine regardless of the application. They also have spacious cabs, a main selector that works similarly to that of a loader for easier control, and several features designed to reduce fuel consumption, including automatic low idle and engine shutdown, an on-demand fan, and more. Plus, MECALAC says one MCR excavator can replace a skid steer and compact excavator, which can help cut operating costs across the board.

One model in the range, the 8MCR, features a 75-hp engine and weighs 15,900 lbs (7,212 kg). It has a maximum reach of 22 ft, 1 in (6.7 meters), max digging depth of 12 ft, 2 in (3.7 m), and a max dumping height of 17 ft, 5 in (5.3 m). It also has a max bucket capacity of 0.7 y3 (0.54 m3), which MECALAC says is the same as a 12-ton (10.9-metric-ton) excavator, and a swing radius of 8 ft, 10 in (2.7 m), which the company says is the same as a 2-t (1.8-mt) excavator.

    AS Series Swing Loaders

MECALAC’s AS Series of articulated wheel loaders consists of the AS700, AS900, AS1600, AS900tele, and AS210e. They range in operating weight from 13,183 to 33,070 lbs (5,979.7 to 15,000.3 kg), in power from 75 to 175 hp (56 to 130.5 kW), and in bucket volume from 0.92 to 4 yd3 (0.70 to 3 m3), depending on the configuration. They have three steering modes: two-wheel, four-wheel, and crab. The machine’s 180-degree swivel arm coupled with the four-wheel steering mode allows it to “perform a complete rotation on a footprint that is 20% smaller than that of a conventional loader,” according to MECALAC. Other features include enhanced stability, a compact design ideal for working in tight quarters, and much more.

    TA Series Site Dumpers

There are 13 models in MECALAC’s TA series of site dumpers with payload capacities of between 2,204 and 19,840 lbs (999.7 and 8,999.3 kg), heaped capacities of between 0.71 and 6 y3 (0.54 and 4.6 m3), and power ratings of between 23.5 and 74 hp (17.5 and 55 kW). There are also MDX Series cab dumpers with “stair-like access,” Power Swivel models that can rotate prior to tipping and High Discharge models that MECALAC says are ideal for work on “smaller sites,” including housing developments and landscaping projects.”

While TA Series site dumpers are easy to maintain and built for optimal off-road performance, safety was another important focus in their design. All TA Series models ranging from 6 to 9 t (5.4 to 8.2 mt) come standard with SHIELD, a safety system that detects seatbelt usage before starting and automatically shuts off the engine if left idling for too long. SHIELD PRO, an available upgrade, adds adjustable speed limiting, safe working angle monitoring, and skip operation interlocks. Also, each model comes standard with front hazard detection for added safety.
