Doosan Infracore has announced its new 40-ton (36-metric-ton) DL580-5 wheel loader aimed at the aggregate, mining, and heavy-duty construction segments. Besides its operator comfort features and enhanced uptime, Doosan boasts of its ability to fill trucks with 24-ton (21.7-metric-ton) payloads in just two passes.

“This wheel loader pairs efficiency and productivity with operator comfort and gives our machine operators the extra capacity they need to move more material, especially for aggregate work,” says Doosan’s North America Product and Dealer Marketing Manager, Aaron Kleingartner.

    Loading Performance

The 79,433-pound (36,030-kilogram) DL580-5 has a straight static tip load capacity of 65,455 lbs (29,690 kg). The 380-horsepower (283-kilowatt) machine provides an impressive hinge pin height of 15 feet, 8 inches (4,780 millimeters) and dump height of 10 ft., 5 in. (3,180 mm).

The big wheel loader supports aggregate buckets ranging from 8 to 10 cubic yards (6.1 to 7.6 cubic meters), but with a 110% overfill rating. The buckets have a flat-bottom design that requires less fuel to push into the pile, according to Doosan. The buckets’ side profile is designed with an arch for better material retention. The abrasion-resistant, high-strength alloy steel buckets support optional inside wear liners and full-width, bolt-on cutting edges. Other attachments available for the loader include a rock bucket, a GP bucket, pallet forks, and a quick coupler.

The new DL580-5 isn’t all braun; Doosan gives it brains, as well, in the form of an optional Trimble LOADRITE L3180 SmartScale weighing system. (Photo courtesy of Doosan.)

In order to improve the DL580-5’s lifting capacity and performance, Doosan gives it better lift cylinder geometry in addition to a stronger Z-bar and a bigger profile arm. Its steering pump and cylinders have a higher volume, as well. The loader comes standard with double-circuit axle coolers and two radiators with automatic temperature regulation, plus six-disc outboard brakes for each low-profile tire.

    Technologies

The new DL580-5 comes standard with a rearview camera and electric steering that’s adjustable via left-hand control. A notable option is an advanced Trimble LOADRITE L3180 SmartScale weighing system. The highly accurate scale can use its built-in Wi-Fi to send productivity information to the InsightHQ portal to create instant reports.
