Multiquip recently announced the new gas-fueled MQ Mikasa MVH508GH, which takes its place at the top end of the manufacturer’s reversible-plate compactor lineup. "There are many factors in selecting equipment for a job," says Multiquip Senior Director of Product Management Torsten Erbel. “Performance and reliability are key decision points—but engine selection is equally important. MQ Mikasa reversible plates are known for their superior performance and outstanding reliability. Now we’re giving contractors more options with a gasoline version of our largest reversible plate."

    The MVH508GH Up Close

Along with reversible-plate models, Multiquip produces one-way plate compactors and one-way paver plate compactors. The firm says its reversible-plate compactors are ideal for efficient compaction of sand, gravel, and cohesive soils, and are also suitable for asphalt applications. Multiquip’s reversible-plate compactor family includes nine models with plates ranging from 15.8 to 20 inches (40 to 50.8 centimeters) wide. The MVH508GH has a 20-in. plate that’s expandable to 26 in. (66 cm) using standard extension plates. The machine also supports Multiquip’s intelligent COMPAS system that manages compaction progress.

The MVH508GH’s Honda GX390 gas engine supports electric and recoil start-up, and helps generate 13,489 pound-force (60 kilonewtons) of centrifugal force. Other features include an LCD hour/tachometer readout that logs machine hour usage and engine rpm, fold-out front and rear covers that provide easier maintenance access entry, and hydraulic controls that provide easy direction switching and spot compaction functionality. A steel protective guard frame helps protect the engine during usage and transport, and heavy-duty shock mounts help reduce vibrations and lengthen its lifespan.

    Vital Statistics

The MVH508GH has an 82-feet-per-minute (25-meter-per-minute) maximum forward speed, and a 4,400 vibrations per minute exciter speed rating. The machine measures 63 in. (1,600 mm) long by 26 in. (660 mm) wide by 48 in. (1,219 mm) high and weighs 935 lbs. (425 kilograms). For comparison sake, the diesel-based MVH508DZ has the same measurements but weighs 1,182 lbs. (536 kg) and produces 14,613 lbf (65 kN) of centrifugal force.

Multiquip also manufactures rammers, walk-behind rollers, and ride-on rollers.
