Doosan DA45-5 Articulated Dump Truck Features Self-Leveling & Payload-Measuring Systems
Doosan recently announced that it has made substantial design updates to its DA40-5 articulated dump truck (ADT), and the result is the next-generation DA45-5, a technologically advanced ADT built to handle challenging off-road construction and mining work.
“We upgraded our previous Doosan DA40-5 articulated dump truck to a DA45-5 because the truck’s maximum allowable payload has increased to 45 short tons,” says Aaron Kleingartner, Doosan Infracore North America product and dealer marketing manager. “The trend with articulated dump trucks has moved to the larger payload capacities, particularly in the 40-ton and larger range.”
The truck features an active payload measuring system that helps operators reduce cycle times and increase productivity, while also protecting against overloading. Doosan also gave the ADT a new self-leveling system that uses hydro-gas cylinders connected to pressure accumulators and automatically adjusts the pressure to self-level. This system replaces the previous combination of shock absorbers and a rubber spring and can also be used to adjust the overall height of the front suspension, which can come in handy for lowering the DA45-5 for transport.
Advanced Payload Measurement
The payload measuring system shows operators the weight of the current load on the DA45-5’s in-cab LCD screen and provides exterior cues to excavator and wheel loader operators who are loading the truck. A traffic light-style indicator illuminates a green light when the truck is within its rated payload, turns yellow when the load comes within 10% of its payload limit, and glows read if the vehicle has been overloaded.
Other Refinements
The DA45-5 has an updated driveline that uses common oil in the wheel hubs, tandem rear bogey, and the limited-slip differential, which automatically transfers torque to the wheel with the best traction. Doosan also gave the truck a new brake system with hardened steel bearings for greater durability and an improved grease distribution system. Up front, a redesigned cab offers drivers better ergonomics, a better-looking (and easier-to-clean) dashboard, updated gauges and displays, and more.
“Some of our Doosan ADT customers install a second camera for a view of the truck’s body and to better monitor the payload,” Kleingartner says. “In addition to our payload measuring system, the second camera connection can help operators determine when the payload is near its proper level.”
The articulated dump truck now also has ground-level maintenance points for easier service and less downtime.
Specifications
Doosan rates the DA45-5 with a payload capacity of 90,390 pounds (41,000 kilograms) and a total loaded operating weight of 156,749 lbs (71,100 kg). The articulated truck has a heaped body volume of 31.9 cubic yards (24.3 cubic meters) without the tailgate. Doosan powers the DA45-5 with a 500-horsepower (373-kilowatt) engine with a maximum torque of 1,750 pounds-foot (2,372 newton-meters). The truck’s maximum travel speed is 34.2 mph (55 km/h).
