Wirtgen Debuts WPS 102i Placer/Spreader, SP 94i Slipform Paver With TeleMold, SP 15i Paver Features At World Of Concrete
Wirtgen introduced some new machines and innovations at the World of Concrete show, which took place January 18 to 20. Two of the novel items were the WPS 102i placer/spreader and an SP 94i slipform paver with the new TeleMold feature. The two machines were presented as part of a concrete paving train along with a TCM 180i texture curing machine.
Wirtgen also showed a SP 15i offset paver with new features, as well as an SP 25i model paver. This year’s World of Concrete was located in Las Vegas.
WPS 102i Placer/Spreader
The new Wirtgen WPS 102i is a dual-track placer/spreader for concrete. Like the smaller WPS 62i, it’s a fully modular design with quick-change hydraulic couplings that make it easy to configure and transport. It is controllable via stringline scanning, stringless 3D applications, or Wirtgen’s Autopilot 2.0 system.
The WPS 102i operates at the head of the paving train. It travels over pre-placed rebar, taking on fresh concrete from a truck driving alongside and spreading it out on the roadbed for the paver following behind. The machine can place concrete at working widths of 13 to 39 feet (4 to 12 meters) and at thicknesses of up to 20 inches (500 millimeters).
SP 94i Paver With TeleMold
The SP 94i is a fully modular, four-track, inset slipform paver tailored to the needs of U.S. road builders. It supports working widths of 12 to 33 ft (3.7 to 10 m) with a crown, or widths down to 6 ft (1.8 m) without a crown. The paver can be mechanically adjusted to lay concrete up to 18 in. (457 mm) thick. It complies with Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions standards.
The World of Concrete show was the first venue at which Wirtgen showcased the SP 94i with the TeleMold system, which allows crews to quickly change the work width by up to 6.5 ft (2 m) during the paving process. TeleMold also features a quick-change system for the metering gate and vibrator mounts. Wirtgen says the system lets a crew change the working width and pave the same day. TeleMold is also compatible with SP 64i and SP 124i models.
SP 15i Offset Slipform Paver
Wirtgen’s SP 15i is a compact, Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V offset paver for concrete. The three-tracked machine can pour monolithic, in-place profiles of up to 4.25 ft (1.3 m) thick and surfaces up to 7 ft (2.1 m) wide. The manufacturer boasts of its maneuverability and tight turning angles.
The SP 15i highlighted a couple of new features at the paving industry trade show. One is a new, retractable extension that can move the operator’s platform out so the driver can inspect the paving results, the feeding system, the transfer hopper, and the interior of the mold’s compaction chamber.
The SP 15i’s other new development is the Curb Depressor Mold. This involves a hydraulically adjustable inset built into the mold that can lower the curb height for driveway entrances and reduce the need for manual labor.
