Liebherr has announced plans to bring two of its sixth-generation machines to New Orleans, Louisiana for the WasteExpo 2023 solid waste, recycling, and organics industry trade show. Along with its R 914 Compact Litronic excavator and L 556 XPower wheel loader, the manufacturer will bring members of its earthmoving and material-handling technology team to speak with attendees at the show, which will be held May 1 to 4.

“WasteExpo 2023 is a great opportunity for us to connect with our customers and better understand their needs within the industry,” says Liebherr USA Special Applications Product Manager Chris Keyes. “It also allows attendees to get up-close with our specialty machines and know that they will have the right machine prepared for specialized applications such as waste and recycling.”

Liebherr R 914 Compact Litronic Excavator

The R 914 is the smallest crawler excavator from Liebherr with a 32,520- to 36,930-pound (14,750- to 16,750-kilogram) operating weight. It has a backhoe bucket capacity of 0.42 to 1.05 cubic yards (0.32 to 0.80 cubic meters) and a bucket digging force of up to 20,010 pounds-force (89 kilonewtons). The excavator’s rear slewing radius is relatively short at 5.1 feet (1.55 meters).

Liebherr says the R 914 Compact Litronic has a sensitive hydraulic system that provides the operator with precise control at high speeds, even while the machine is moving. The excavator gets its motivation from a 122-horsepower (91-kilowatt) Tier 4 Final diesel engine.

Liebherr L 556 XPower Wheel Loader

Power and performance, but with fuel efficiency and operator comfort—that’s Liebherr’s assessment of the virtues of its L 556 XPower wheel loader. XPower models come with a standard power-split travel drive, which uses a hydrostatic drive for loader work activities but switches to a mechanical drive for driving longer distances and on gradients.

A 245-HP (183-kW) Tier 4 Final diesel engine powers the L 556 wheel loader, which has a 43,210- to 47,620-lb (19,600- to 21,600-kg) operating weight and a tipping load of 20,505 to 30,315 lbs (9,300 to 13,750 kg). The loader can use buckets with 3.4- to 13.1-cu yd (2.3- to 10-cu m) of capacity.
