Mecalac Unveils World’s 1st Fully Electric 6-Metric-Ton Dumper
Mecalac recently introduced the eMDX, which the manufacturer says is the world’s first fully electric 6-metric-ton (6.6-U.S.-ton) dumper. The eMDX retains the same hydraulic and driving performance as its diesel counterpart but with improved acceleration and maneuverability on slopes. The machine also eliminates emissions and reduces noise on the jobsite, allowing it to work indoors and out.
About The Mecalac eMDX
The zero-emission eMDX has a 75-kilowatt-hour battery and can operate continuously for at least eight hours on a single charge. It has a rapid recharge time of four hours. The electric dumper has a payload of 13,228 pounds (6,000 kilograms) and a maximum skip capacity of 815 gallons (3,085 liters). The eMDX has an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive for work on any terrain.
Charging is one of the biggest hurdles companies face when switching to electric equipment. The eMDX has a type 2 plug, akin to those used in electric cars, enabling it to be charged at available charging points or via a 5-pin industrial socket on a switchboard or site unit.
Improved Safety
The eMDX cab is rollover protection system (ROPS)- and falling object protection system (FOPS)-certified. Mecalac has also tested its ability to withstand impacts while loading the dumper skip, using front and side impact tests at different excavator swing speeds to simulate potential real-world impacts on the jobsite. The cab also offers easier access, all-around visibility, and an object detection radar to avoid possible hazards in front of the eMDX.
