Komatsu has made several of its European demolition excavators—a quartet of models ranging from 42 to 104 feet (12.8 to 31.7 meters) of reach—available in North America for the first time. They include the high-reach PC490HRD-11 with a K100 boom quick-change system and the straight-boom PC290LC-11, PC360LC-11, and PC490LC-11 excavators.

These demolition models protect against debris on the ground and falling objects. Komatsu offers Lehnhoff quick couplers and Montabert demolition attachments to adapt the excavators for various applications.

“Komatsu understands that the demolition industry is a fast-growing and evolving segment that demands new product innovation,” says Komatsu Director of Products and Services Bruce Boebel. “We are excited to be able to now provide this family of demolition excavator solutions in support of the industry, offering the ability to quickly customize for different working environments and provide versatility and efficiency at the jobsite.”

    Komatsu PC490HRD-11 High-Reach Demolition Excavator

The PC490HRD-11 demolition model uses Komatsu’s K100 boom change system, which makes setup and boom swaps much faster so the machine can get to work sooner. The 362-horsepower (270-kilowatt) excavator has a maximum extended high reach of 104 feet with a 5,510-pound (2,500-kilogram) maximum attachment weight.

Although well-guarded by debris shields, the PC490HRD-11 gives the operator superb visibility from its 45-degree tilting cab. Like the other demolition machines in Komatsu’s announcement, the PC490HRD-11 comes with the KomVision 360-degree view camera system as standard. An interface panel in the shielded cabin displays the excavator’s 360-degree working range indicator system, side stability pre-alert system, and more.

    Straight-Boom Komatsu Demolition Models

The PC290LC-11, PC360LC-11, and PC490LC-11 straight boom demolition excavators outreach standard models by 22% to 26%. According to Komatsu, they can be easily customized and programmed to use 15 different tools. Their protective elements include a heavy-duty revolving frame, underguards, a bucket cylinder guard, boom light shields, and reinforced attachment linkage.

The PC290LC-11 is a 197-HP (147-kW) model with a maximum digging height of 43 ft (13 m). The demolition excavator weighs 67,120 lbs (30,445 kg).

The 78,550-lb (35,630-kg) PC360LC-11 is a larger, more robust model at 257 HP (192 kW). It can reach up to 42 ft.

Finally, the even bigger Komatsu PC490LC-11 is a 359-HP (268-kW) unit with a 47-ft (14.3-m) maximum digging height and an operating weight of 107,500 lbs (48,760 kg).
