Isuzu Commercial Truck of America recently hit a major milestone with the production of its 50,000th gas-powered N-Series truck on Aug. 1 in Charlotte, Michigan. The N-Series entered production in April of 2011 under the watch of Spartan Motors, Inc. At the time, it was the first low-cab-forward truck to run on gas in the North American market.

“We anticipated the demand for gasoline-engine low-cab-forward trucks over seven years ago, and the assembly of our 50,000th truck proves that our instincts were correct,” says Shaun Skinner, president of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America. “New competitors have entered the marketplace, but our N-Series gasoline truck is still the premier vehicle in its class. That’s a testament to the performance and reliability Isuzu is famous for and the tremendous build quality of the finished product, thanks to Spartan.”

    Isuzu N-Series

Every model in the N-Series of trucks sports a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine that offers up to 297 horsepower (221.5 kilowatts) and 372 pounds-foot (504 newton meters) of torque. It also features a six-speed automatic transmission with some unique technologies, including a lock-up torque converter and double overdrive, both of which contribute to better overall fuel efficiency. Isuzu also offers an option for an engine that supports the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) for those who want to take advantage of alternative fuel sources.

    Wealth Of Options

The N-Series line of gas-powered trucks includes the NPR, with its 12,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), and the NPR-HD (14,500-pound GVWR). Both are available as a Single Cab with a 109-inch, 132.5-inch, 150-inch, or 176-inch wheelbase, or as a Crew Cab with either a 150- or 176-inch wheelbase. “We are proud to offer our gas-powered N-Series truck in a wide range of configurations to meet our customers’ needs,” says Skinner. “And together with our dealerships and Spartan Motors, we’re looking forward to the next 50,000.”
