Mack Unveils New MD Series Medium-Duty Trucks, Ready To Order & Entering Production July 2020
Mack Trucks recently introduced a brand-new line of medium-duty trucks that will enter production in July 2020 but is officially available for order now: the Mack MD Series. The company will also invest $13 million to upgrade its manufacturing plant in Roanoke Valley, Virginia, with new equipment, tools, and other updates. The 280,000-square-foot (26,013-square-meter) Roanoke Valley Operations building will serve as the main production facility for the MD series, and its establishment will create 250 new jobs in the process.
Mack MD6 & MD7 Models
The new MD Series consists of the MD6 and the MD7, both of which are exempt from the 12% FET (Federal Excise Tax) according to Mack. Both models come standard in a 4x2 configuration and have BBC (bumper-to-back-of-cab) lengths of 103 inches (2,616 millimeters). They also share a design that’s similar in appearance to the Mack Anthem, specifically with regard to trucks’ hood and grille.
The Class 7 Mack MD7 has a GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of 33,000 pounds (14,970 kilograms), while the Class 6 MD6 has a GVWR of 25,995 pounds (11,791 kilograms). While both models are well-suited for similar applications, including dry van and reefer, flatbed and stake, and tank and dump operations, Mack says the MD6 is distinct in that it does not require a CDL (commercial driver’s license) to operate for non-hazardous payloads.
More Options For More Customers
“Already providing our customers a full product lineup of Class 8 vehicles, which includes straight trucks and cabover platforms, the Mack MD Series expands even further the solutions available to our customers,” says Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of North American sales and marketing for Mack Trucks. “Now that we have a full lineup of Class 6 to Class 8 vehicles, customers desiring Mack’s distinctive durability and reliability now have an option for lighter GVWR configurations.”
