A Closer Look At Great Dane’s Freedom XP Flatbed Trailer

According to Great Dane, its Freedom XP (FXP) trailers have three things that are “must-haves” for flatbeds: they are lightweight, durable, high-performance flatbeds. But the FXP is also highly customizable with several suspension, coil, load securement, bulkhead, and rear-end options available to tailor it to the specific needs of a given application. Here’s a closer look at the Great Dane FXP flatbed trailer.

    Versatile Trailer Range

The Great Dane Freedom XP is available as an all-steel, all-aluminum, or steel-aluminum combo flatbed trailer. The all-steel Freedom SE is designed for heavy-duty applications and features either a one-piece main beam or a multi-beam design. It has a load rating of 80,000 pounds (36,287 kilograms) when evenly distributed or 50,000 lbs (22,680 kg) for concentrated loads. Load securement options include rub rails, spools, and side rails with steel pockets. The rear also features five recessed stake pockets.

The steel-aluminum combination Freedom LT has the same distributed and concentrated load ratings as the SE. It comes standard with a one-piece main beam, an aluminum floor with four apitong nailing strips, aluminum side rails and rub rails, flat hook anchor points, pipe spools, and stake pockets on the main body as well as in the rear.

The Freedom XP is the all-aluminum version and it is purpose-built to handle higher payloads thanks to its lighter weight. It can handle evenly distributed loads of up to 120,000 lbs (54,431 kg) and distributed loads of between 52,000 and 60,000 lbs (23,587 kg). It has many of the same load securement, floor, crossmember, and front-end features as the other two FXPs, but standouts include a two-piece riveted main beam, a special appearance package, and JOST AX150 Alumilight landing gear.

    Options Galore

Great Dane offers a wide range of options across the FXP lineup, including tridem or quad suspensions, U.S. Department of Transportation-rated bulkheads, and a coil package that adds more crossmembers between main beams to prevent damage. Extra load securement options include three-bar winches, C hooks, D rings, pull-up chain ties, rope ties, sliding chain hooks and tracks, twist locks, and more. There is also a drop-deck option with an upper coupler height, drop depth, and rear deck height of 48, 20, and 40 inches (122, 51, and 102 cm), respectively.
